About Bulgur Wheat

Bulgur wheat is cracked wheat made by blanching the kernels of the grains (the hulled ones) and crushing them into smaller pieces. Typically, it's used in Middle Eastern dishes such as stews and salads (like tabbouleh) or used as a pudding or porridge when simmered in milk.

Uses for Bulgur Wheat

It's commonly used in salads and pilafs alongside herbs, vegetables, spices, and other grains. Also, it makes a great binder for meatballs and patties. You can even substitute bulgur wheat for ground meat in classic dishes like tacos and chili because of its chewy texture. Add 1 cup of medium grain bulgur and 1 3/4 cups of diluted broth to a sauce pan and season generously with salt. Simmer for about 10 minutes after reaching a simmer, then cover and lower the heat. Then turn the heat off and let it sit for another 10 minutes.
