Black Turtle Beans are small dried beans full of flavor. Black beans are versatile and commonly used in soups, stews, sauces, and in burritos. You can add black beans to salads, soups, and hotpots or use them in vegetarian burgers.

Uses for Turtle Beans

When cooked, dried black turtle beans double in size. For the beans, soak 1 cup beans in 4 cups of water for 2 - 4 hours. Drain and rinse beans, place in a saucepan with 3 cups of cold water, and bring to a boil. At this stage of cooking, avoid adding salt, as this will make beans tough. Simmer the beans for 1 12 to 2 hours (or until soft) on low heat (to prevent their skin from coming off).

Drain and use right away or refrigerate for up to two days. Black beans go well in salads, warming soups, or vegetarian burgers. You can mix mashed beans with pureed beetroot, sumac spice, and chilli for dips. Use these small turtle beans as a filling in burritos and tacos, or re-fry them for classic chilli beans.
